Mechanical workshop for women

I've seen enough roadside moments where someone is stuck waiting for help. A flat, a skipping chain, pads worn through. Small stuff, but it stops the ride. This evening is about making sure it doesn't stop yours.

We work on your own bike, slowly, with enough repetition that your hands remember the next time.

What we'll work on

Tire change

Getting the wheel off, finding the hole, dropping in a new tube, and wrestling the tire back on without pinching anything. The last step is the one that catches most people out.

Chain care

Cleaning it properly, oiling it properly, and knowing when it's worn enough to replace. A neglected chain kills your cassette, which is the expensive bit.

Disc brake pads

How to tell when pads are done, what to buy to replace them, and how to swap them without messing up the alignment. Disc brakes only.

Pre-ride check

A quick routine before you roll out. What to squeeze, what to spin, what to listen for. Five minutes that save an otherwise good Sunday.

The women bits

Most cycling advice is written as if everyone rides the same body. Part of the evening is the stuff that rarely makes it into a mixed group. Saddles and chamois, skin on longer rides, numbness, what changes during your cycle, which kit actually fits you.

I'm not a doctor. I'm just tired of figuring this out alone. Bring whatever you want to ask.

What's included

  • Two hours with other women and me, working on real bikes.
  • All the workshop tools for the demos. Best if you bring your own bike and any tools you already own, so you work on your own setup.
  • An evening of fun with women who ride.

What to bring

A bike with disc brakes (this round I only cover disc, not rim). Clothes that can handle a bit of chain oil. Something to drink. I bring the full workshop toolkit, but if you already own a multitool, tire levers, or a mini pump, bring them too so we can check they actually work for your bike.

Spare parts are on you, since these are what you'd carry on a ride anyway. If you want to practice swapping a tube, a tire, or a set of disc pads, bring your own. Not sure what fits your bike? Send me a message before the workshop and I'll help you work it out.
